Chapin and Lexington High Schools Celebrate Big Golf Wins Ahead of State Finals

In an exciting turn of events in South Carolina high school golf, Chapin and Lexington high schools have claimed victory in their respective championships, setting the stage for a thrilling state finals later this month. Just when you thought the competition couldn’t get any better, these schools showcased their talent and determination, making their communities proud.

Chapin Takes the Lower State Crown

On a sunny Monday, Chapin High School hit the golf course with all guns blazing, securing the Class 5A Division II Lower State championship. But it wasn’t an easy road; the team faced an uphill battle as they were trailing by eight shots going into the back nine. With grit and teamwork, Chapin pulled off an impressive comeback, finishing with a total score of 311 and clinching the title by a solid five shots over Conway.

Among the standout players for Chapin was Mia Andrade, who fired an impressive round of 73 to share the medalist title with Conway’s Gracyn Cox. Not to be outdone, Chapin’s Lilly Reed Black ended just one shot behind them, while Reagan Haggard contributed an 80 to finish ninth in the individual standings.

Lexington Strikes Gold in the Upper State Championship

Class 5A Division I Upper State championship. The team battled it out on the course, achieving a score of 328 and finishing ahead of Dorman by seven strokes. The victory was undoubtedly a team effort, but it was the players like Giavanna Martusciello and Taryn Smoak, both scoring 80, who showed persistent prowess in the face of strong competition.

It’s worth noting that Caroline Hawkins from Blythewood earned the medalist honors, making the competition even fiercer with her fantastic score of 71. Blythewood didn’t just stop there; their performance secured them a spot in the state championship as they finished fourth overall. Adding to the excitement, River Bluff placed third with a score of 338, also qualifying for the state finals, with standout player Caitlyn Gaines scoring a remarkable 72.

Class 4A and Other Championships Ready for Action

Meanwhile, in the Class 4A Upper State championship, Camden managed to secure their place in the state finals with a total score of 350, claiming the third position. Team members including Lakin Atkinson, who shot 81, showcased their talent well, tying for sixth with AC Flora’s Merritt Barbery. AC Flora itself, while finishing fifth with a score of 385, saw player Louise Vipperman scoring 82 to claim eighth overall.

What’s Coming Up

The excitement doesn’t end here – the state championships are set to begin this upcoming Monday, promising to be an exhilarating series of matches. Chapin will be competing in the Class 5A Division II championship, which is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the beautiful Smithfield Country Club. Not far behind, the Class 5A Division I championship will take place at the equally stunning Columbia Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Class 4A championship is lined up at Rose Hill Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, while the Class 3A championship will hit the greens at Hackler Golf Club on the same days, wrapping up with the Class A/2A championship at Chester Country Club.

With such a vibrant display of skill and competitiveness from these young athletes, the upcoming state finals are sure to be a spectacular event that no golf fan will want to miss!
