Chamber of Commerce Elects New Board in Newberry

NEWBERRY – The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce has elected its new board members at their annual dinner held on January 18, 2024. This election comes as part of the Chamber’s efforts to bolster the local business community and continue driving economic growth.

New Board Members

The newly elected members include Theo Lane, District Manager of Duke Energy and Government Community Relations, Hunter Perry who serves as the Associate Athletic Director for External Relations for Newberry College, and Tia Devette, Co-owner of Laila’s Place. These board members will serve a four-year term from February 2024 to January 2028.

In addition to the new board members, Kimberly Kitchens was elected as the chair, with Kimberly Livingston standing as the chamber’s vice chair. Their leadership is expected to guide the Chamber’s efforts over the next four years.

Ambassador of the Year

The Newberry County Young Professionals were announced as the 2023 Ambassador of the Year at the event. They’ve been applauded for their contributions to the community, including the organization of events for residents and professionals in Newberry, as well as their efforts in fostering relationships and community building.

“We firmly believe that part of being a good citizen of Newberry County is giving back to a community that has given us so much,” said Mary Kopp, President of the Newberry Young Professionals.

Community Contributions

Among their key contributions to the community in 2023, the Newberry Young Professionals built two Little Free Pantries available to anyone in need. The group also hosted drives to ensure school children had necessary supplies and clothes for the fall term.

Looking ahead, the Young Professionals plan to continue their commitment by hosting a kickball tournament and a tailgate at Newberry College later this summer.

Tokens of Appreciation

The event concluded with a tribute to past leadership. Andrew Wigger, previous chair of the Chamber, was awarded a gavel for his service. Fellow outgoing board members Melody Jepson and Carlton Kinard were gifted with photographs of Newberry taken by local photographer Oswaldo Tapia.

These changes in the Chamber’s leadership aim towards the continued growth and prosperity of Newberry’s business community. The newly elected board will be looking to leverage their diverse experience and local knowledge to drive the reason’s economic progression. In line with the Chamber’s mission, this new team is committed to advocating for local businesses, promoting commerce, and solidifying Newberry’s business community.
