Cayce City Gets a Generous $2.1 Million Gift for History Park Visitor’s Center

Hey there, Cayce! Exciting news is bubbling up in our city! The Boyd Foundation just gifted the City of Cayce a whopping $2.1 million to help complete the construction of the Visitor’s Center at the renowned 12,000 Year History Park. How fantastic is that?

A Dream Come True

Mayor Elise Partin is over the moon about this generous donation. She stated, “We are thankful for the gift from The Boyd Foundation to be able to build the visitor center for the 12,000 Year History Park. This park already shows archaeological proof of habitation from 12,000 years ago and is part of the National Park Service American Battlefield Plan.” Talk about a win for our community!

Partin went on to highlight how important it is to protect this historic land and share the stories of everyone who walked it. The park is significant not just for Cayce but also for our county, state, and nation. We’re talking about a piece of history so rich and diverse that it’s been under our feet for thousands of years!

Bringing History to Life

As many of you might know, the 12,000 Year History Park is not just your average park! It’s a unique archaeological site where history meets nature. For over 12,000 years, the area has been home to various inhabitants including Native American tribes, mammoths, and Revolutionary War soldiers. Yes, you read that right—mammoths!

Walking through the park, you’ll find earthworks still visible from an 1865 Civil War battle. It really is a treasure trove of history, with stories waiting to be uncovered for explorers of all ages. And once the Visitor’s Center opens, it will certainly enhance the experience.

The Future is Bright

Looking ahead, the next step is to finalize competitive bids for constructing the new Visitor’s Center. Changes are coming, and they’re going to be exciting!

President of the Board for the Boyd Foundation, George Bailey, expressed his enthusiasm as well. “This will provide outdoor recreational opportunities; and in this case, it will also be a great tourism attraction and an educational opportunity for children throughout the Midlands area.” With this project, we can look forward to a vibrant space that brings people together and educates future generations.

About the Boyd Foundation

If you’re wondering about the Boyd Foundation, here’s a quick rundown! The foundation is deeply rooted in the legacy of the late Darnall W. Boyd, who had a strong desire to uplift the quality of life for everyone in the Midlands. Today, Susan Boyd and other board members continue this mission through projects that enhance the outdoors, education, and the preservation of history.

Their goal is to support charitable projects that leave a lasting impact on our community—a vision that truly aligns perfectly with what Cayce is all about!

A Call to Action

So, Cayce, let’s celebrate this wonderful gift and embrace the stories that have shaped our town. Whether you’re a history buff, an avid explorer, or just someone who enjoys a beautiful day outdoors, the 12,000 Year History Park is set to soon become your go-to destination.

Stay updated as we eagerly await the exciting developments ahead. And, as always, be proud of the rich history that Cayce has to offer!
