The City of Cayce Pledges to Enhance Roadway Safety with Comprehensive Safety Action Plan

The City of Cayce is taking strides to increase safety on its roadways. A new comprehensive Safety Action Plan, boosted by a $160,000 grant from the Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All program, has been approved by the city’s council. This initiative is aimed at mitigating accidents at four high-risk intersections within the city and promoting cleaner, safer modes of transit.

Assessing Intersections for Improvement

At the heart of this strategy are four problematic intersections that have been identified as posing a risk to traffic and public safety. The areas under consideration in the plan include:

  • The 321 and 3000 block
  • Knox Abbott Drive and 12th Street
  • Frink Street and Julius Felder Street
  • 12th Street and Frink Street

The city intends to consult with a highway safety specialist to draw up a strategic course of action. Proposals will tackle the existing issues and illuminate ways to advance safety within these intersections. It is estimated that this stage will take between six months and a year to fully develop.

Promoting Cleaner, Safer Transit

Within its comprehensive roadmap to better roadway safety, the City of Cayce also foresees the chance to promote cleaner and healthier transportation alternatives. As part of this initiative, suggestions for new walking paths and expanded bike lanes will be taken into consideration.

During a recent city council meeting, the grant from the Safe Streets and Roads for All program was approved, matching funds of up to $40,000 were allocated from the General Fund Balance to facilitate these improvements.

The Path Forward

This initiative is a significant step taken by the City of Cayce to ensure the safety of its residents. Following the consultation phase, thorough action plans for each intersection will be designed to guide their transformation into safer, more user-friendly spaces.

Stay tuned for future updates on this project, which is expected to yield marked improvements in traffic safety and efficiency in the City of Cayce.
