Exciting Renovations Transform Capitol Center into Educational Hub

COLUMBIA — Exciting Changes Coming to the Capitol Center!

Rain, rain, go away! Well, the forecast might have other plans today with a 100% chance of rain expected this morning, bringing in around half an inch of locally heavy rainfall. But don’t worry, it’s just nature’s way of reminding us it’s December! So grab that umbrella as we dive into some exciting local news that you won’t want to miss.

Out with the Old, In with the New!

In a fabulous twist for Columbia’s skyline, the old Capital City Club spot on the 25th floor of the Capitol Center is undergoing some thrilling renovations. Out goes the private club, and in comes the future of educational administration as the Charter Institute at Erskine expands its operations right at the top of the tallest building in town. This renovation, costing a whopping $280,000, is set to transform the space into a bustling hub for educational excellence.

According to city permits, the revitalized floor will feature 23 new offices, two spacious conference rooms, two cozy break rooms, and a stylish board room. Sounds fancy, right? The institute, currently located on the third floor of the building since May 2018, has certainly outgrown its old digs. Ashley Epperson from the institute commented on the move, stating that they needed more space to meet the booming demands of their rapidly growing student population.

A New Era of Educational Leadership

The upcoming changes at the Capitol Center aren’t just about office space; they’re about making a propelling impact on education across South Carolina. Epperson noted that “as one of the largest school districts in South Carolina, the institute had needed to expand its office space for some time to accommodate the growing demands of its rapidly increasing number of our schools and children.” The institute isn’t just expanding its workspace; it’s set to make a significant difference in the local education landscape.

As for the stunning views you’ll find on the new 25th floor? It overlooks the State House and downtown Columbia, perfect for brainstorming sessions filled with inspiration and creativity. The Capitol Center is home to plenty of other businesses, including state agencies and financial firms, giving the area a buzzing, professional vibe.

The End of the Road for the Capital City Club

The space that will soon be occupied by the Charter Institute was previously dedicated to the well-known Capital City Club, which had its doors open since the building first opened back in 1988. Unfortunately, it closed down in February 2024, with club operators declaring it “no longer sustainable in this post-COVID environment.” While that’s a bummer for the long-time members of the club, all is not lost as new opportunities arise.

The good news? The existing offices on the third floor will now be subleased, meaning there’s a chance for more businesses to find a home in the Capitol Center. Talk about a win-win situation!

A Bright Future Ahead

To wrap things up, while Mother Nature might be showering us with rain this morning, Columbia has some bright days ahead with these exciting developments at the Capitol Center. The Charter Institute at Erskine is set to make waves in the educational sector from their new high-altitude office space.

So, whether you’re a supporter of education or just curious about local developments, keep your eyes peeled on the Capitol Center — it’s about to become a bustling hub of activity!

Don’t forget to stay dry out there, folks, and let the rain be a reminder that change is always on the horizon!
