This past week in Bloomington, local high school basketball teams featured some exciting matchups, particularly in the girls’ division. Here’s a quick look at the highlights.
In a tough battle, Bedford North Lawrence took down Bloomington North with a score of 57-42. The Cougars, who were missing key players Ashley Stegemoller and Lulu Frank due to injuries, struggled to keep pace. Senior Kate Lehr stood out with a game-high 21 points, but it wasn’t enough. BNL led 21-16 at halftime and managed to hold that lead throughout the second half.
Owen Valley continued its winning streak, defeating Greencastle 52-36. The Patriots, now 3-0, faced an early challenge as they fell behind in the first quarter. However, with an incredible defensive effort, they limited the Tiger Cubs to just two points in the second period. Hannah Bixler led the charge with 20 points, while Aubrey Sparks added 13.
In another significant matchup, Loogootee easily defeated Eastern Greene with a final score of 55-29. The Lions jumped out to a commanding lead, ending the first half at 27-13. Eastern Greene struggled offensively, managing only one point in the third quarter.
In less competitive action, White River Valley overwhelmed Lighthouse Christian with a score of 91-13. The Wolverines managed to accumulate an impressive 56-10 lead by halftime, showcasing remarkable offense and solid defense, marking their highest score since November 2016.
This week has been full of ups and downs for our Bloomington teams as they navigate through their seasons. Fans look forward to more action in the coming weeks.
