North Augusta, S.C. – The University of South Carolina baseball team clinched a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Georgia State on Tuesday night at SRP Park, home of the Augusta Greenjackets. The Gamecocks displayed an impressive performance, securing the win with a combination of timely hitting and solid pitching.
The Gamecocks took an early lead in the first inning as Dylan Brewer’s single and a stolen base set up Ethan Petry’s RBI single, putting Carolina on the board. However, Georgia State responded with a strong third inning, utilizing three doubles to take a 2-1 lead.
Carolina fought back and tied the game in the fifth inning when Parker Noland and Ryan Bakes delivered clutch hits. The momentum continued in the sixth inning with Tyler Causey’s triple and a wild pitch that allowed Cole Messina to score, giving the Gamecocks a 4-2 advantage.
Despite Georgia State adding a run in the seventh, the Gamecocks’ pitching staff, led by Matthew Becker and Garrett Gainey, shut down the opposition in the final innings to secure the win. Becker earned the win with a strong relief appearance, while Gainey notched his second save of the season.
Cole Messina stood out offensively with two hits, while Tyler Causey showcased his speed with his first collegiate triple. Pitcher Eddie Copper had a solid start, recording six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
Carolina’s victory improved their season record to an impressive 14-3 mark. The team maintained a stingy 2.21 ERA after the game, showcasing their pitching depth and reliability on the mound.
The Gamecocks will now shift their focus to their upcoming SEC opener against Ole Miss on Friday night. The highly anticipated matchup is set to take place in Oxford, Miss., with first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT.
With this hard-fought win, the University of South Carolina baseball team continues to showcase their resilience and determination as they gear up for a competitive SEC schedule ahead.
