The University of South Carolina baseball team secured a 4-3 victory over The Citadel on Tuesday night (April 16) at Joe Riley Park. The Gamecocks put on an impressive performance, scoring early runs and finishing strong to claim the win.
The Gamecocks took the lead with three runs in the early innings. Ethan Petry’s triple drove in the first run, followed by Dalton Reeves’ single to extend the lead. Kennedy Jones added another run with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The Citadel responded with two runs in the bottom of the third, but Will Tippett’s solo home run in the seventh inning extended Carolina’s lead. The Citadel managed to score one more run, but the Gamecocks’ solid defense held them off in the ninth inning to secure the win.
Parker Marlatt picked up the win in relief, with Garrett Gainey closing out the game for his sixth save of the season. Tippett led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with his third home run of the year.
– Parker Noland extended his hit streak to 14 games and reached base streak to 24 games.
– Ethan Petry recorded his 19th extra-base hit of the season with a triple in the first inning.
– Three freshmen pitchers (Tyler Pitzer, Jake McCoy, and Parker Marlatt) made notable contributions on the mound.
The Gamecocks will face off against No. 2 Arkansas in a three-game series starting on Friday night (April 19) at 7 p.m. at Founders Park. The game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus, promising an exciting matchup for baseball fans.
