Arlington High Schools Prepare for a Quiet Sports Week

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, Arlington high schools are gearing up for a much less busy week of sports action. With the transition from fall to winter sports, there are only a few key events scheduled, including a significant postseason football game and various preseason scrimmages.

The main highlight this week is the region semifinal football game, which will see the Washington-Liberty Generals take on Langley at 7 p.m. This matchup is crucial as both teams are eager to advance in the tournament.

For wrestling enthusiasts, several scrimmages are set to occur. On Saturday, Wakefield will compete against West Springfield at 9 a.m., while Washington-Liberty faces Lewis at noon. Additionally, Yorktown will grapple with Justice at 9 a.m. These scrimmages will help teams shake off the rust and prepare for the competitive season ahead.

Swim & dive fans can look forward to a match on Saturday as Bishop O’Connell goes up against Good Counsel at the St. James, starting at noon.

In boys basketball, scrimmage games are lined up with West Springfield traveling to Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m. and Hayfield facing Yorktown also at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the girls basketball teams will feature a matchup with St. Andrew’s visiting Bishop O’Connell at 7:30 p.m.

Ice hockey fans will not be left out, as Bishop O’Connell heads to MedStar Capitals Iceplex to take on St. John’s at 3:30 p.m. on the same day.

On the same evening, Wakefield will challenge Osbourn at 7:30 p.m. for boys basketball, while Justice will meet Washington-Liberty in a girls basketball scrimmage also at 7:30 p.m.

There will be no high school sports events from Wednesday, November 27 through Friday, November 29, allowing athletes and families to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday together.

With limited action this week, teams will be eagerly looking forward to returning to their respective competitions as the winter sports season gets underway.
