Arlington High Schools Ready for Exciting Football Playoff Weekend

Arlington High Schools Set for Exciting Postseason Action

This week in Arlington, local high schools are gearing up for a quieter week of fall sports, but there are still some thrilling postseason events on the horizon. Fans can look forward to a couple of significant football playoff games on Friday night, November 15, featuring three Arlington teams.

The matchups include Yorktown visiting Washington-Liberty at 7 p.m. and Bishop O’Connell traveling to take on St. Mary’s Ryken, also at 7 p.m. Both games promise to be competitive as teams strive for a spot in the next round of the playoffs.

In addition to football, the Class 6 state girls field hockey tournament is in full swing. The Yorktown Patriots will face off against Fairfax in the semifinals at Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach. This game is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be followed by the Class 6 state championships also taking place at Ocean Lakes at 4 p.m.

Ice hockey action continues with Yorktown playing against Loudoun Valley at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex at 8 p.m., while Washington-Liberty takes on Forest Park at the Prince William Ice Center at 9:10 p.m.

On the track, the Class 6 state cross country meets are scheduled for Saturday morning at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, with the girls racing at 10:30 a.m. followed by the boys at 11:15 a.m.

As winter sports approach, several basketball and wrestling scrimmages are set to take place. Teams from Washington-Liberty and Yorktown will participate in a wrestling scrimmage at 2 p.m. at Wakefield. Basketball scrimmages will feature Forest Park at Wakefield at 7 p.m., while various girls and boys teams from Washington-Liberty and Yorktown will compete against other local schools throughout the evening, starting from 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

This upcoming week is sure to bring excitement to the Arlington community as teams look to make their mark in postseason play and prepare for the winter sports season.
