Appleton High School Sports: Volleyball Victories, Soccer Standouts, and Thrilling Performances

In Appleton, the Lightning volleyball team showed strong dominance in their match against the Spartans, winning in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-10, 25-18. Coach Steve Scheuerell praised the performance, noting that, “Our girls played well tonight and served well.” Key players included Chloe North, who contributed with five digs and five aces, Lydia Koshuta with ten assists and four aces, and Teegan Charapata, who led with ten kills and three aces.

Over in Hortonville, the Ghosts managed to pull off a solid win against the Polar Bears, finishing with scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-21. Standout players for Kaukauna were Madison Tripp, who had 24 assists and five aces, and Brenna Matthies, who provided three aces alongside eight digs.

The Oshkosh Wildcats played a nail-biting match against the Papermakers in which they came from behind to win with a score of 30-28, 15-12 after five sets. Coach Carrie Raminger expressed pride in both teams for their hard work. Ava Van Camp led the defense with 30 digs while Emma Tesch tallied 32 assists and four aces.

In more volleyball action, the Hawks from Appleton swept the Thunder 25-12, 25-11, 25-8, marking their record at 3-0 in the Bay Conference. Sydney Neilitz was pivotal, assisting 22 plays during the game.

Meanwhile, in cross country results, the Appleton North girls finished strong, scoring 21 points against teams from West De Pere and Bay Port, with top finishers including Sophia Scherwinski who clocked in at 19:37.3.

In the boys’ division of the cross country meet, Sheboygan North took the lead with 46 points. Key runners included Ian Willemsen, finishing at 17:21.2.

In soccer, Hortonville showcased a powerful offense with Roman Glad scoring two goals in their win over the Patriots. Grant Decker recorded a clean sheet for the game, not needing to make a save.

As the week continues, local teams shine in both volleyball and cross country, delivering thrilling performances that keep the excitement high in the community.
