In Anderson, a tragic workplace accident has led to the unfortunate demise of an employee at the Anderson Regional Joint Water System. Local officials confirm that the employee, identified as Tristan Garrett Stone, was electrocuted in a workplace accident.
According to sources, the incident took place at a facility located on Vanguard Road at around 9:50 am on Thursday. Stone, who was just 23 years of age, was working on an air conditioning unit at the time of the event. He accidentally cut a live wire during his assignment to replace the unit’s fan motor. As a result, he was subjected to an electrical shock, as was reported in a release from the coroner’s office.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, responded swiftly to the incident. The alarming call was made by the Anderson Regional Joint Water System officials from a location at 998 Hunters Trail. This is an event that has shocked everyone involved in the company’s operations. According to Deputy Director Jeff Caldwell, nothing of this sort has ever happened before. The facility, housing 21 employees, was ill-prepared for such an incident.
Emergency services, including Anderson County EMS, Medshore EMS , Anderson County Fire Department, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Office of the Coroner, intervened immediately. The EMS personnel made resuscitative efforts on Stone and swiftly transported him to the AnMed Emergency Center. Despite the significant efforts, Stone couldn’t be revived and succumbed to his injuries.
The Anderson County Office of the Coroner, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, teamed with the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation. The case also involves OSHA, who has initiated an investigation into the accident. As this is a clear case of occupational safety, its investigation would ensure stricter precautions and preventive measures are put in place to avoid any such occurrences in the future. The results from the investigation will be considered as the cornerstone in making Anderson Regional Joint Water System a safer working environment.
