In an exciting display of talent and determination, AC Flora has once again made its mark by winning the 17th state championship in Class 4A boys golf at the picturesque Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton. The Falcons showcased their skills over two days, finishing with a remarkable total score of 589. This victory allowed them to outshine last year’s champions, North Augusta, by an impressive 10 shots.
A Legacy of Championships
With this recent win, AC Flora adds to its impressive collection of championships, which all have been secured since 2002. Notably, this victory positions AC Flora just behind the record-holding team, Christ Church, which boasts an impressive 21 titles to its name. It’s clear that AC Flora has solidified its reputation as one of the dominant forces in South Carolina boys golf.
Day One Highlights
As the final day kicked off, all eyes were on AC Flora as they entered with a solid six-shot lead, thanks to their opening-day score of 289. The tension was palpable as players took to the course, but the Falcons remained focused and determined to secure their title.
Standout Performers
Leading the charge for AC Flora was Thomas Lamar, who delivered a commendable performance, finishing with a score of 1-over 145. His efforts earned him a spot in a five-way tie for second place overall. While AC Flora shone, it was North Augusta’s own Jackson Beggs who snatched the individual title with a remarkable performance.
Excitingly, AC Flora was not the only high-achieving team on the course. Westwood seventh-grader Connor Wolfe impressed everyone by tying for second place alongside Lamar, also finishing with a score of 145 while competing as an individual.
AC Flora’s Other Top Performers
The Falcons weren’t done there! Coleman Ferguson also put forth a strong showing, wrapping up his play with a score of 147. This performance earned him coveted all-state honors after finishing in a tie for ninth place, further adding to AC Flora’s successful championship run.
Other Notable State Championships
While AC Flora was busy making history, other teams were also celebrating their own successes. TL Hanna clinched the Class 5A state championship with a score of 3-over-par 291, managing to finish ten shots ahead of Chapin. In a thrilling turn of events, TL Hanna overcame a five-shot deficit, showcasing their competitive spirit.
In another exciting championship, Wren won its very first state title during a nail-biting playoff against Blue Ridge, with both teams ending with a score of 603. Wren emerged victorious after two intense playoff holes, while Dawson Szabo from Blue Ridge captured the individual championship title with an impressive score of 143.
Oceanside Collegiate Shines Bright
Oceanside Collegiate also made waves by claiming its second state championship, finishing a stunning 13 shots ahead of Bishop England with a score of 579. Bishop England’s Matthew Teegardin still had his moment in the spotlight, winning the individual title with a phenomenal score of 6-under 138.
