High School Sports Roundup: Weekend Highlights from Around the Area

In Oxford, the boys’ soccer team celebrated a solid victory against Ansonia, winning 4-1. Kevin Monticone led the charge with 2 goals, complemented by strikes from Ryan Mizak and Gavin Shupp. Ansonia’s Jorge Aguilar managed to score the lone goal for his team. With this win, Oxford’s record improved to 7-4-2, while Ansonia remains at 1-8-3.

Meanwhile, in a tense match, RHAM secured a narrow victory over South Windsor with a 1-0 score, marking another successful outing for the team this season.

In girls’ soccer, Seymour took home a decisive victory, blanking Derby 5-0. Four different players found the back of the net, including standout performances from Demetrios Karragiannis and Joey Carrafiello.

Tolland also achieved a dominant win, scoring 6-1 against East Hartford. Leading the scoring for Tolland were Graham Nagardeolekar with 2 goals, and 5 other players contributed to the team’s total.

In another thrilling encounter, Xavier displayed offensive prowess, thrashing Amity 7-1. Diego Canellas was the star of the match, netting 3 goals. Xavier’s record now stands at 10-1-2.

Danbury faced off against Bridgeport Central, winning comfortably with a score of 6-0. Ava Thatcher and Isabella Chapleau lit up the scoreboard, each contributing to the team’s success.

On the volleyball court, Guilford swept North Haven in three straight sets (25-10, 25-11, 25-15), with impressive performances from Sam Alberghini and Maya Thompson.

In a close swim meet, Hall edged out Farmington with a score of 90-88, showcasing strong individual performances in various events. Notable contributors included Miriam Youel and Ziggy Edney.

This weekend’s games highlighted the ongoing competitive spirit in high school sports, with athletes showcasing their skills and determination to secure wins for their teams.
