From Cayce to West Columbia and beyond, local charter schools are taking action to support those affected by the storm. American Leadership Academy – Lexington Takes Initiative
In an impressive display of compassion, American Leadership Academy (ALA) in Lexington organized a spontaneous supply and food drive on Sunday, September 29. The event drew an incredible turnout, with cars forming long lines at the lower school’s car line from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Families opened their hearts and generously donated essential items like water, paper products, shelf-stable food, and batteries. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that ALA found themselves with a surplus of supplies!
As a testament to their dedication to serving the community, ALA opened its doors on Monday, inviting families from both upper and lower schools to come and collect the supplies they needed. Volunteers were on-hand to assist, embodying the school’s core values of Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. It was heartwarming to see families helping one another, reminding everyone that they are not alone in facing the challenges of the storm.
Gray Collegiate Academy Steps Up
Meanwhile, over at Gray Collegiate Academy in West Columbia, the War Eagles wasted no time in springing into action. Upon learning that a medical team from Self Regional Healthcare needed ice to preserve vital supplies, the school responded quickly. They provided enough ice to fill 22 coolers, helping to ensure that perishable materials would stay fresh.
But that wasn’t all! Gray’s team also turned their focus to supporting the hardworking local linemen tirelessly restoring power in Aiken and Augusta. They provided snacks and refreshments to fuel these essential workers as they tackled the challenges of power restoration.
To further aid those in need, the school’s Senior Student Council took the initiative to organize a supply drive, collecting items such as flashlights, toiletries, and non-perishable food. This important effort is still ongoing, providing a way for community members to get involved and lend a hand.
