Omaha Marian Claims Victory at Lincoln Northeast Volleyball Invite
Omaha, NE – The Lincoln Northeast Volleyball Invite saw some exciting matches on Saturday as Class A No. 9 Omaha Marian showcased their skills, claiming the championship by sweeping Class B No. 6 Waverly in two straight sets, with scores of 25-15 and 25-21.
The Crusaders got off to a strong start in the first set, maintaining a solid lead as they went up 19-12 at one point. Waverly attempted to make a comeback, but Omaha Marian continued to control the pace and finish the set decisively. In the second set, Waverly jumped out to a surprising 7-2 lead, prompting an Omaha Marian timeout. However, the Crusaders regrouped and took charge, eventually pulling ahead to a 19-18 lead before securing the win in both the set and the match.
In contrast, Class A No. 10 Lincoln North Star struggled throughout the tournament, losing both of their matches. They first battled against Waverly but were edged out in a tightly contested three-set match, ending with scores of 25-22, 24-26, and 15-25. In their second match, the Gators faced Class B No. 9 Gretna. They fought hard but fell short again, with the final scores being 25-23, 22-25, and 23-25. Gretna’s Elle Heckenlively was a standout performer, leading with 11 kills.
The host team, Lincoln Northeast, managed to finish the day with a split record. They lost their opening match to Lincoln Standing Bear with scores of 24-26, 25-16, and 17-25. However, they bounced back strong, defeating Lincoln Southeast with a 25-19, 25-17 victory.
As the high school volleyball season progresses, teams are eager to continue improving and building on their tournament results.
