Cayce, S.C. – Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts Underway

After the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Helene, the sun is starting to shine a bit brighter in Cayce, South Carolina. This morning, the weather was a little foggy in the early hours but is expected to clear up, giving way to a lovely, partly cloudy day with a high of around 80°F. As the skies clear, the focus shifts to the diligent efforts taking place throughout the region to help those affected by the storm.

Insurance Adjusters in the Field

Farm Bureau Insurance® is all hands on deck with their claims adjusters assessing damages from the hurricane. These dedicated professionals have been out in the field since last Saturday after the storm passed. Johnny Booth, the vice president of claims, shares that their adjusters are working tirelessly to process claims as soon as they can clear roadways. “We’ve had an unprecedented number of downed trees and power lines, making it tough to reach everyone, especially in the hardest-hit counties,” Booth explains.

To further assist in the recovery efforts, additional adjusters have made the trip from Louisiana, and more are on the way from other states. It’s clear that this is a critical time for many residents, and Farm Bureau is doing everything possible to help them through this tough situation.

What to Do If You’ve Suffered Storm Damage

If you’ve been impacted by the hurricane and have not yet met with your insurance adjuster, don’t worry! Here are some helpful tips to ensure you’re prepared:

  • Document the Damage: Be sure to take plenty of photos of any damage before you start cleaning up. This documentation will be essential when you meet with your adjuster.
  • Temporary Repairs: If your roof is damaged, make temporary repairs if it’s safe to do so. Just remember to keep all receipts for any work done.
  • Create a List: Make a thorough list of damaged items to be replaced or repaired. Including receipts or pictures will strengthen your claim.
  • Watch Out for Scams: Sadly, repair scams often emerge after disasters. Hiring a local, licensed contractor is your safest bet. Always ask for references and verify them.
  • Read Everything: Before signing any agreements for repair work, read them carefully so you know what to expect and how they interact with your insurance.
  • Price Gouging: Keep an eye out for price increases. If something doesn’t seem right, contact the South Carolina Attorney General to check if the law is being violated.

Farm Bureau policyholders who have storm-related claims can report damage by calling 1.800.799.7500, visiting their website, or using the Farm Bureau Insurance MOBILE agent app. They’re here to help you every step of the way!

Supporting the Community

In addition to the insurance efforts, the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) is working hard to lend a hand to those in need. They’re seeking a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that would enable them to automatically issue food replacement benefits for current SNAP recipients affected by the hurricane. This is another step towards helping the community bounce back.

With the clear skies and the collective efforts from various organizations, there is hope and support for everyone affected by Hurricane Helene. We can all be thankful for the hard work and dedication of those helping to restore our community and aid its recovery.

Stay strong, Cayce, and know that brighter days are ahead!
