De Pere High School Sports Update
DE PERE – In an exciting exhibition of talent and determination, the Bay Port girls golf team clinched the regional title with a remarkable 359 team score, allowing them to advance to the sectional meet. Close on their heels was De Pere, which finished with a score of 361. Other schools making the cut include the Green Bay Preble Co-op with 393, and Notre Dame at 408.
Individual medalist honors were shared among three players, each shooting an impressive 86: Payton Dudra from Bay Port, Lucy Kim of De Pere, and Emma Cunningham from the Green Bay Preble Co-op. Further standout performances included individual qualifiers like Talia Schlindwein from Wausau East/West and Ella Szekeress from D.C. Everest, among others. The sectional competition is set for October 8 at Thornberry Creek in Hobart.
In other regional results, Denmark snagged the team title with a score of 406, just edging out Freedom which scored 408. Winneconne also secured a spot in the sectionals with a score of 413. Freedom’s Kay Lee McClintock stood out by claiming individual medalist honors with a score of 91, while Whitney Derricks of Denmark led her team with a score of 99.
In volleyball, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans demonstrated their skills by sweeping the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes with scores of 27-25, 25-14, and 25-16. Coach Jeff Frey praised the team’s resilience following a previous tough match, highlighting the leadership of players like Aubrey Frey, who notched 15 kills and 15 digs.
Looking ahead, the various team performances not only highlight the competitive spirit and camaraderie found in local high school athletics but also set the stage for an intense sectional meet to come.
