Exciting Changes Coming to Columbia with Indie Film Premieres

Columbia is buzzing with anticipation as it gears up for the world premiere of a thrilling new indie horror flick, Pater Noster and The Mission of Light. Directed by local auteur Christopher Bickel, this film promises to entice viewers with its captivating story and creative cinematography. Mark your calendars for October 5, when the curtains rise at the Independent Picture House!

Weather Update: Perfect Movie Night

If you’re planning to head out for the premiere, you’ll be pleased to know that the weather is shaping up nicely. Expect showers in the morning, followed by a partly cloudy afternoon with a high of around 89°F. A gentle breeze from the south-southwest at 5 to 10 mph will keep things comfortable. Just a heads up, there’s a 60% chance of rain, so a light jacket might be wise!

Behind the Scenes Magic

For those who aren’t familiar, Pater Noster dives into the eerie world of a fictional cult wrapped in a blend of horror and chaotic mayhem. Drawing some inspiration from real-life cults, Bickel has managed to recruit a diverse cast of locals who brought the film to life. Among them is August Krickel, a long-time writer and theater enthusiast who stepped into the role of Cult Member #5. He shares a fascinating journey from an ordinary summer to being part of something extraordinary.

“In my youth, I often played ‘old’ on stage,” Krickel recalls. “This time, I didn’t need padding or make-up. It felt like a fitting return to my theatrical roots.” His experiences transformed from simple acting into a unique adventure filled with creative camaraderie, plenty of quirky moments, and an abundance of *fake blood*.

Support from the Community

The film’s production was a shared effort, fueled by the passion and dedication of local film buffs and artists. They came together to fund the project, participate as extras, and provide everything from **set pieces** to snacks. It was more than just a movie— it became a community initiative where everyone pitched in to make it happen. The delightful Dwayne Brantley, one of the cultists, was known for bringing smiles alongside delicious food and coffee during long shooting days.

Filming Experiences

Filming took place over several weekends in scenic locations like Eastwind Castle, which creatively stood in for a hippie commune. The script called for some rather intense scenes, including frenzied, orgiastic chaos, leading the cast to don flesh-colored leotards that can only be described as “nude underwear.” Though the settings may have spooked some, the spirit of teamwork and laughter was ever-present.

“There was an element of family while we worked,” reflects Krickel. “Between the sweat and occasional panic when someone nearly collapsed from the heat, we found joy in creating something unique.” The director, Bickel, always ensured that everyone felt comfortable and safe, leading with warmth and humor during stressful moments.

What’s Next for the Film?

With the film now in its final stages and set to premiere soon, there’s an undeniable buzz about how this labor of love will fare in the wider film community. Taking pride in the local talent and resources, there’s hope for this indie creation to make a mark beyond just Columbia.

As Krickel shared his adventure and encouraged others to join the premiere, it’s clear that the community spirit surrounding Pater Noster and The Mission of Light will inspire even more local projects in the future. “Once you’ve been part of something this special, you just want to keep creating,” he concluded.

So, Columbia, let’s show our support! Join the film buffs, arts supporters, and curious viewers at the Independent Picture House on October 5th. After all, making memories with a great indie horror flick is where the real fun lies!
