Columbia Gears Up for a Fun-Filled Fall!
Columbia is buzzing with excitement as the fall season rolls in! The community has a lot in store, and we’ve got the scoop on some fantastic events and opportunities that you won’t want to miss. So grab your calendar, and let’s dive into all that’s going on!
Microchipping Event for Pets
First up, for all our furry friends and their owners, Columbia Animal Services is hosting a free microchipping event this Sunday, September 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. at their location on 127 Humane Lane. This is a wonderful chance to ensure your pet has a safe and permanent form of identification. Plus, it’s completely free! What a great way to take care of our beloved pets!
Palmetto Peanut Boil
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28, because you won’t want to miss the 17th Annual Palmetto Peanut Boil happening from noon to 6 p.m. along the 2900 Block of Devine Street. This event is not only about fun and food but also supports a good cause—100% of the proceeds will benefit Columbia Animal Services and their vital spay and neuter program. Free adoptions will also be available, so you might just find your new furry best friend!
Art and Culture
For the art lovers among us, be sure to check out Alexandra’s Art Studio located at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road. They offer a wide range of classes for both adults and kids, making it a great spot to unleash your creativity. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, there’s something for everyone!
Community Beautification
The City of Columbia’s Forestry and Beautification Department is on a quest to celebrate our beautiful trees through their Treasured Trees Program. This program aims to recognize trees that have significant value to our Midlands community. If you know of a tree that deserves recognition, you can nominate it until November 1. Just give them a call at 803-545-3860 to get started!
Get Your Dance Moves On!
If dancing is your thing, join the fun with Palmetto Scottish Country Dance every Monday from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the Eastminster Presbyterian Community Life Center. Looking for something a bit different? Adult Ballet Classes are also available every Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Columbia Music Festival Association. All ages are welcome, so why not give it a whirl?
Festival Fun!
There’s also the 46th Annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History and Culture this Saturday, September 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mann-Simons Site. Local soul singer Sunshine Anderson will headline the event, bringing some amazing music to the festivities!
