Exciting Community Events Coming Up in Columbia!
Hey, everyone in Columbia! We’ve got some great happenings planned in the upcoming weeks that you’d definitely want to mark on your calendar. Whether you’re looking to honor a memory, spend time outdoors, or just enjoy some local shopping, we have something for everyone!
Remembering 9/11
First up, let’s take a moment to remember those we’ve lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Columbia will hold a “Morning of Remembrance” on September 11 at 8 a.m. This is the 14th annual ceremony, and it’s a perfect time to pay tribute to military service members, first responders, and their families. It’s a solemn occasion, but it’s vital to honor their sacrifices and reflect on the courage it takes to serve.
Run for Heroes
And if you’re feeling a bit more energetic, you won’t want to miss the “Tunnel to Towers” 5K run happening soon after, on September 13 at 6 a.m. This event will take place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Lace up your running shoes and join the community in this fulfilling run that gives nod to real-life heroes!
Lake Murray Clean Up
Now, if you love spending time by the water and want to give back to the community, consider volunteering for the Lake Murray Sweep on September 14. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Keep the Midlands Beautiful is coordinating a cleanup effort to tackle trash around Lake Murray. They’ll provide all the necessary supplies, even cool t-shirts and prizes! Don’t wait too long, though; you need to register by September 6 to reserve your spot.
Vintage Market Days Ticket Giveaway
For those who appreciate unique finds and local crafts, the Vintage Market Days Carolina event is just around the corner, running from September 6 to September 8 at the state fairgrounds. What’s better? There’s a chance to win a family fun pack including four tickets for free admission! You can enter from now until September 5 by checking out the contests section on the website. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for some shopping fun!
Supporting Local Schools with Fries
Lastly, let’s talk about some delicious ways to help our local schools! Head to your nearby McDonald’s before August 30 to support their Fries for School Supplies Initiative. For this week, when you buy any size fries, 10% of the sales will go directly to local schools and school districts. Not only will you satisfy your cravings, but you’ll also be contributing to a great cause that supports teachers and students in our community!
Join In and Make a Difference!
So there you have it, Columbia! Exciting things are happening, and there are plenty of ways to get involved and make a difference. Whether you plan to run, volunteer, shop, or munch on some fries for a good cause, let’s come together and celebrate our community spirit. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!
