Miraculous Recovery of Abused Cat in Columbia

A horrifying act of abuse has recently come to light in Columbia, SC, where a cat had been subjected to unimaginably cruel mistreatment. Now affectionately named Emmie by her rescuers, this innocent creature was found with her eyes, nose, and mouth glued shut. Today, she is on a hopeful path to recovery.

Initial Discovery and Rescue

Emmie was found in a distressed state near the Spring Lake Apartments on Garners Ferry Road. The heartbreaking sight of her predicament was shared on Facebook, where it caught the attention of animal lover and founder of the nonprofit “For the Love of Street Dogs,” Manuela Schafer.

“Scrolling through the comments, I observed that nobody wanted to help the cat. I simply couldn’t look away from that,” Schafer lamented.

Health Conditions and Treatment

Executive Director of the Humane Society of SC, Dawn Wilkinson, stated that Emmie was noted as a domestic cat, possibly left behind by a previous tenant. “This was a trusting animal that approached a person, likely craving affection, only to be brutally tortured in the process,” she said.

Emmie’s road to recovery involved immediate medical attention, which included the painstaking process of safely removing the glue from her facial features. Reportedly, a thermal burn was caused to her skin by the unidentified substance, leading to uncertainty about her skin condition once all the glue has been removed. In addition to applying warm compresses and providing a feeding tube, rescuers anticipate that Emmie may lose an eye due to the ordeal.

Investigation and Call for Action

In the face of this shocking cruelty, authorities are thoroughly investigating the case. “We absolutely suspect foul play in this situation as the cat was shaved in places and had its whiskers cut,” stated Wilkinson. Should the perpetrators be identified, a criminal charge is promised.

The Nonprofit “For the Love of Street Dogs” is covering the cost of Emmie’s treatment. Once she recovers, she will be placed in a medical foster home.

While Emmie is on her road to recovery, it’s a stark reminder for every individual or organization to step up their efforts to protect these innocent creatures from such heinous atrocities.
