Town Theatre presents ‘Disney’s Beauty and the Beast’ musical, first show on July 12
Bringing the Beloved Animated Tale to Life on Stage
The classic “tale as old as time,” “Beauty and the Beast,” has long entranced audiences with its beautiful storytelling and memorable songs. On Friday, July 12, the much-loved Disney masterpiece will come to life on stage at the Town Theatre in Lexington. This cherished animated film has been transformed into a stunning musical production, presented by a talented cast of 60 performers.
The Journey from Screen to Stage
Becoming celebrated not only as an enchanting love story but also as a tale of two outcasts finding their place in the world, the 1991 animates film captivated viewers through its premier voice acting talent, including Robby Benson, Jerry Orbach, and Angela Lansbury. Notably, its song collection contributed significantly to its appeal, so much so that composers Alen Meneken and lyricist Tim Rice expanded the original eight songs in the film to a full 26 for the musical rendition in 1993.
The Show’s Run and Unique Opportunity
Located on Sumter Street, the Town Theatre is set to stage performances of the musical until July 28, giving audiences an extraordinary opportunity. Notably, the license for performing ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is set to be retired temporarily, rendering Town Theatre one of the last venues to showcase this incredible musical. Adding another feather to its cap, the Town Theatre was also the first community theatre in South Carolina to produce the show in 2005.
A Glimpse at the Cast
The Town Theatre’s cast for this epic production includes several new faces. Belle, the well-known heroine of the story, will be shared by actresses Camryn Cothran and Scarlett Stone, both newcomers. The role of the Beast will be split between Lee Saxton and debutant Wyatt Pittman. Other key characters like the comically villainous Gaston, lovable Maurice, and various memorable enchanted objects within the Beast’s castle are portrayed by a vibrant lineup of new and returning actors. Director Scott Vaughan, Music Director Jane Cato, and Choreographer Katie Page will guide this fantastic cast.
