Chapel Hill, N.C. – Honeycutt Named to ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team

North Carolina junior centerfielder Vance Honeycutt has been named to the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods announced Wednesday afternoon. Honeycutt becomes the first Tar Heel to win a Gold Glove award, earning one of three outfield spots on the team.

Top Defensive Player

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players from each division of collegiate and high school baseball. The Salisbury, N.C., native had 16.85 defensive runs saved, the second-highest among all NCAA Division I players and tops among all outfielders.

Impressive Career

Honeycutt, the two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year, started all 177 career games played in center field, including 62 this season, with a .985 fielding percentage and five assists. His exceptional defensive skills and consistency on the field have earned him this prestigious honor.

Recognition and Achievement

This recognition solidifies Honeycutt’s status as one of the premier defensive players in collegiate baseball. His dedication to excellence and remarkable talent have set a high standard for future players in the sport. The University of North Carolina community celebrates this well-deserved achievement and looks forward to witnessing more outstanding performances from Honeycutt in the future.
