Investigation underway after FCI Edgefield inmate dies
An inmate at a federal prison in South Carolina is dead. The tragedy unfolded at FCI Edgefield, a medium-security federal prison situated south of Edgefield. With around 1,500 male inmates in its confines, the prison serves as a facility for the incarceration and rehabilitation of offenders.

The inmate’s passing occurred at 12:46 p.m. on Tuesday, as confirmed by Edgefield County Deputy Coroner Robbie Harter. The identity of the deceased inmate will not be disclosed until the family has been appropriately notified. Furthermore, the cause of death is pending an autopsy examination in Newberry.
