22nd Ranked Gamecocks Suffer Heartbreaking Extra-Innings Loss to Texas A&M
In a thrilling matchup in College Station, Texas, the 22nd ranked South Carolina softball team (18-4, 0-2) faced a tough defeat in extra innings against the 17th ranked Texas A&M (22-2, 2-0) on Saturday night (March 9). The Gamecocks fell 2-1 after a hard-fought battle that lasted 10 innings.
Game Highlights
Despite the loss, Riley Blampied, Carlie Henderson, and Brooke Blankenship each contributed with a hit for Carolina. Pitcher Alana Vawter (5-3) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits in 5 2-3 innings of relief. Sage Mardjetko started strong, pitching four innings, allowing one run on two hits, and striking out six.
The Aggies struck first in the opening inning, bringing home a run with two outs. The Gamecocks answered back in the second, loading the bases with no outs. Giulia Desiderio was hit by a pitch, allowing Zoe Laneaux to score. The game remained tied until the 10th inning when Texas A&M hit a two-out home run to secure the victory.
