The 2024 Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series Comes to Lake Murray

Lake Murray, SC – South Carolina’s pride, Lake Murray, is gearing up for a spectacular event to add to its already vibrant calendar. The 5th season of the 2024 Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series scored by TourneyX will kick off at Lake Murray on February 24, 2024, and run through February 25, 2024.

Record Participant Numbers Expected

This highly competitive tournament has turned heads this year by breaking the registration record for the most anglers in a regular season tournament, with over 230 participants. The event, hosted by Capital City/Lake Murray Country (CCLMC), is anticipated to yield impressive results. Miriam Atria, CCLMC President/CEO, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm: “We are excited to host over 200 kayak anglers from across the country and know that Lake Murray will deliver a challenging event with strong final numbers.”

The Bass Come Out in February

The tournament will offer the first opportunity for anglers to accumulate points toward the Dakota Lithium Bassmaster Kayak Series Angler of the Year title. According to Barry Davis, a Bassmaster Kayak Series angler, “The bass are going to start coming out of their winter patterns into their spring areas”, adding that the weather during this time can be unpredictable but the tournament has the potential for impressive catches, with previous events showing bass bags of up to 100 inches per day.

A Host of Giant Bass

Lake Murray has emerged as a prime hunting ground for large bass in the past few years. The lake ranked No. 4 overall on Bassmaster Magazine’s 2023 100 Best Bass Lakes list, and No. 1 in the Southeast, and there’s ample reason to believe that the next tournament will offer up similarly impressive results. Last year’s Kayak Bass Fishing events confirmed the abundant bass population, with winners catching over 90 inches of bass in just one day.

Scoring and Tournament Structure

Scoring for the tournament is based on the length of each angler’s catches, which are measured in 1/4 inch increments using a catch, photograph, and release method. The five longest verified lengths from each day are added together to give the angler’s daily limit score, and the totals from both days are combined to give a final score. The top 5 finishers will proceed to the Bassmaster Kayak Series Championship, held in conjunction with the Bassmaster Classic.

Public Participation

The public is warmly invited to take part in the forthcoming excitement, with a registration meeting scheduled for Friday, February 23 between 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. While the thrill and challenge of the competitive events will be the primary focus, the camaraderie, scenic views, and anticipation will make for an unforgettable experience.

A Jewel in the Southeast

With its diverse range of fishing environments and rich bass population, Lake Murray continues to shine at the top of the list for Southeast bass fishing locations. The 2024 Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series is sure to add to the lake’s reputation as a great bass fishing destination, offering anglers and spectators the chance to witness some of the most capable kayak anglers in the country testing their skills against the might of Lake Murray’s bass population.
