Gloria Peacock Ormand, age 98, of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Thomaston, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, at The Village of Summerville. A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Ormand is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. in Southview Cemetery in Thomaston, where Mr. Chris Hinson will officiate the services.
Born on July 26, 1927, in Cochran, Georgia, Gloria Ormand was the daughter of the late Walter Hunt Peacock, Sr. and Sylvia Scoles Peacock. She graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1944 before earning a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State College for Women. Gloria was known for her active role in the community, volunteering with the Red Cross Blood Bank and the Upson Regional Hospital Auxiliary. In addition, she enjoyed countless hours participating in her Thursday afternoon bridge club over the years.
A long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston, Mrs. Ormand served in various positions throughout her membership, showcasing her dedication to her faith and community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Ormand, Jr., her son, Jon M. Ormand, and her brother, Walter H. “Sonny” Peacock.
Surviving Gloria are her daughter, Georgia (Craig) Dupree of Summerville, S.C., and her twin sister, Georgia Peacock Wilson of Holly Hill, S.C. She also leaves behind a grandson, Jason (Cynthia) Dupree, residing in Indian Land, S.C., and a granddaughter, Lindsey (Shayne) Hilton, who resides in Chapin, S.C. Furthermore, her daughter-in-law, Elaine Ormand, lives in Roswell, and she is survived by four great-grandchildren: Kemper and Wells Hilton, and Emerson and Oliver Dupree. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
The family expressed appreciation for the staff at The Village of Summerville and Agape Hospice for their devoted care over the past six years.
