News Summary

Three lucky players from North Carolina have won $100,000 each after matching four white-ball numbers and the red Powerball number in the latest drawing. The Powerball jackpot reached an impressive $1.8 billion, marking the second largest in U.S. lottery history. In addition to these winners, several other players benefited from the Power Play multiplier, showcasing the life-changing possibilities of the game amidst rising excitement for future drawings.

Charlotte – Three players from North Carolina have woken up $100,000 richer following the latest Powerball drawing held on Saturday night. The players achieved this impressive win by matching four white-ball numbers along with the red Powerball number, benefiting from the active 2x “Power Play” multiplier.

The Powerball jackpot had reached a staggering $1.8 billion, making it the second-largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history. Only the previous record of $2.04 billion won in 2022 was larger. Although two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas claimed the grand prize, North Carolina’s players made notable winnings in a drawing where the winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball 17.

In addition to the three $100,000 winners, another four players in North Carolina matched the same numbers to earn a similar amount due to the enhanced odds provided by the Power Play option. Without this multiplier, the basic prize for matching four white-ball numbers and the Powerball would have been set at $50,000. This increase highlights the popularity and potential payout benefits of the Power Play feature.

As excitement surged in the state, over 200 other players matched either four white-ball numbers or three white-ball numbers plus the Powerball, winning $200 each. The Power Play could have allowed some of those players to double their winnings as well, further increasing the number of individuals walking away with cash in hand.

After the drawing, the Powerball jackpot reset to a notable $20 million for the next drawing scheduled for Monday night. However, this upcoming drawing is already drawing attention with a jackpot that is projected to reach $1.4 billion, or $634.3 million in cash value, if claimed as a lump sum payout.

In a related incident, a team of co-workers known as “The Money Team” also won $100,000 after purchasing a winning ticket at a Walmart in Charlotte on August 23. Matching the same numbers, the team initially believed their ticket was worth only $500 but were shocked to discover their actual prize amount of $100,000 during a group call. After state and federal taxes were deducted, “The Money Team” took home a total of $71,751, showcasing the life-changing possibilities that come with winning the lottery.

The Powerball game remains a popular choice among players seeking substantial winnings, and with such large jackpots on the line, the excitement continues to build among hopeful participants. With additional payouts to a multitude of players at various levels, the game ensures that while some aim for the mega jackpots, others have a chance to secure smaller, yet significant, winnings along the way.

As the North Carolina lottery landscape continues to evolve, players eagerly anticipate future drawings and the chance to join the ranks of recent winners.
