She was the beloved widow of George C. Boney, who predeceased her. Pat’s passing marks the end of a life characterized by her devotion to family and commitment to her work and community.
Born to James Andrew and Geneva Cannon Montgomery in Lane, South Carolina, Pat was a respected member of her community and deeply loved by her family. She graduated from Kingstree High School in 1949 after receiving her education in Williamsburg County. After high school, Pat briefly attended Winthrop College but soon returned home to help her sister pursue her nursing education, demonstrating her supportive nature.
Pat’s professional career began as a bookkeeper at the Kingstree Tobacco Warehouse and continued at Santee Electric Co-op. In 1952, she married George C. Boney in Kingstree, and the couple moved to Pickens in 1954 due to George’s job relocation. Pat later took a position at SCN Bank and retired from Wachovia in 1992, concluding a successful career that reflected her dedication and work ethic.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia D Boney of Pickens, SC, and two sons, George C. Boney (Ellen) of Chapin, SC, and Robert M. Boney (Shelia Smith) of Niceville, FL. Pat was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Hanna Elizabeth Montgomery (Christian) of San Diego, CA, George W. Boney of Clemson, SC, and Emerson Sofia Smith of Niceville, FL. Additionally, she has one great-grandchild, Theodore James Montgomery of San Diego, CA.
Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, sister Carolyn M. Moss of Indiana, and four brothers: Arthur A Montgomery of Columbia, SC, William Belton Montgomery (“Billy”) of Lane, SC, and two who passed away in infancy.
Family and friends wishing to pay their respects can visit Dillard Funeral Home on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service in her honor will take place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Pickens Presbyterian Church, located at 311 W Main St, Pickens, SC 29671, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
