News Summary

Key closures include Neely Wingard Road on April 23 and lane restrictions on East U.S. Highway 64 starting April 10. Additionally, Pine Street will be partially closed for repairs in November. Motorists are advised to remain alert for detour signs and road conditions, especially amidst ongoing weather challenges affecting nearby Kentucky.

Attention Lexington County Drivers!

Big changes are coming to the roads around Lexington County, SC, as the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) prepares for a series of necessary bridge repairs. Buckle up and keep an eye on the road signs because you’ll want to know what to expect in the coming days!

Neely Wingard Road Bridge Repair

First up on the list, mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The bridge on Neely Wingard Road that spans over Little Black Creek will be closed for repairs starting bright and early at 6 a.m. and will stay shut down until 8 p.m. that same day.

Concerned about getting around town? Don’t worry! A signed detour route will be set up to guide drivers around the work area. As always, it’s super important to slow down and stay attentive when you’re near the crews and their signs during this time.

East U.S. Highway 64 Updates

But that’s not all! Starting on April 10, one lane of East U.S. Highway 64 heading westbound at the Interstate 85 bridge will also be closed. This closure will take place every night for five nights to fix damage caused to the bridge’s steel girders from a dump truck incident last fall. For those who plan on being out at night, closures will happen from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, depending on the weather.

Curious about the cost of these repairs? You’ll be happy to know that the total expense for fixing East U.S. Highway 64 is approximately $42,000. The SCDOT initially foots the bill, but they’ll be reimbursed by the dump truck’s insurance plan later.

Pine Street Closure – Get Ready for a Short Detour

And just when you thought it couldn’t get busier, there’s more! From November 4, 2024, Pine Street in South Congaree will undergo repairs from East Steel Road to Edmund Highway, lasting around a week. During this time, Pine Street will be open for local traffic only, except right at the bridge site where work will be happening.

As always, drivers should approach work zones with vigilance and stay alert for signs and crews working.

Weather Warnings and Flooding Alerts

In related news, if you’re heading out during the ongoing weather conditions in South Carolina, expect clear skies with a low of 41°F and light winds. However, it’s essential to stay informed on road conditions, especially if you’re traveling towards Kentucky, where significant flooding has hit hard. Over 70 counties have declared states of emergency, and at least 350 state highways remain closed due to flooding and landslides.

The Kentucky government has been advising people to avoid driving through water and to heed barricades while traveling. Meanwhile, several bridges are under inspection for damage. Caution is the name of the game.

As if that wasn’t enough, in Columbia, SC, portions of Whaley Street and Main Street have been closed due to flooding, with city officials actively monitoring both the situation and road closures. Drivers should treat any traffic lights that are out due to power outages as four-way stops to ensure safety.

Stay Informed, Stay Safe!

With these upcoming closures and alerts, it’s a good idea to keep your travel plans flexible. Make sure you’re aware of detours and any other adjustments to your route. We’ll keep you updated as more information rolls in, so you stay safe and sound while navigating those roads!
