Winter Sports Week Kicks Off in Arlington
This Friday, Arlington high schools will dive into a full week of exciting winter sports as the season continues to heat up. Fans can look forward to a variety of athletic events, including basketball games, a significant wrestling tournament, swim-and-dive competitions, girls gymnastics, ice hockey matches, and indoor track-and-field events.
The boys and girls basketball teams will be hitting the courts, with several games scheduled. Notable matchups include the Jefferson boys traveling to Yorktown for a game at 7:30 p.m. and Washington-Liberty hosting Oakton at the same time. On the girls’ side, Yorktown will take on Jefferson and Wakefield will face South County, both at 7:30 p.m.
Wrestling fans will not want to miss the action as Washington-Liberty competes in the Sherando Tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. Additionally, Wakefield will host a nine-team dual meet on Saturday morning.
The swimmers will also be busy this week with meets scheduled, including Langley visiting Wakefield at 6:30 p.m. and Meridian going to Yorktown for another 6:30 p.m. meet. The diving events will add an exciting flair to the competitions.
On the ice, Yorktown’s boys’ team will face Tuscarora at 9:20 p.m. in Leesburg, while Washington-Liberty will take on Lake Braddock/Fairfax at 8:30 p.m. at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Girls ice hockey fans can cheer for Bishop O’Connell as they play against Stone Ridge at 6:30 p.m.
This packed week of sports promises plenty of action for local high school teams, giving students, parents, and community members many opportunities to come out and support their favorite athletes. Be sure to mark your calendars and show your school spirit!
