Lucy Johnson Wins Miss Maine Field Hockey Award
In Augusta, the excitement was palpable as Cheverus High School senior Lucy Johnson was honored with the prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey award at the Maine Field Hockey Association’s annual awards banquet this past Sunday. Johnson, who holds the state record with an impressive 152 goals, has made her mark in the sport in a spectacular way.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that her older sister, Lily Johnson, who is now a freshman at Boston University, won the same award just last year. This unique back-to-back win makes them the first sisters in history to win the Miss Maine Field Hockey award in consecutive years. Previously, Amanda Chase and Julia Chase from Greely won it in a three-year span between 2002 and 2004.
During her exceptional high school career, Lucy led the Stags to a record of 71 wins and only 1 loss across 72 games. She played a pivotal role in helping the team win its first three state championships in 2021, 2023, and this past fall. Next year, she will continue her field hockey journey at Boston University.
In her acceptance speech, Lucy expressed her gratitude and pride, stating, “It’s great and I’m glad that Lily and I get to share this bond. It was a big goal for sure. When I came to Cheverus as a freshman, I loved the sport and knew I was going to work hard, but I didn’t think this would be the outcome. I’m so happy it was. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. We just wanted to set each other up for success.”
As the awards banquet concluded, it was clear that Lucy Johnson’s achievements have left a lasting legacy at Cheverus High School and in Maine field hockey.
