Irmo Spreads Holiday Cheer with Generous Donations
Irmo, a vibrant community that shines especially bright during the holiday season, is buzzing with excitement as the Mungo Homes Foundation kicks off its annual Week of Giving. This year, as winter blankets the town with its chilly air, the foundation is warming hearts, showcasing the true spirit of December.
As we all know, December is a time of giving, and this year, the Mungo Homes Foundation is making a noticeable impact. On Tuesday, the community came together to celebrate Giving Tuesday, a global day devoted to giving back. But here in Irmo, the celebration doesn’t stop there—it expands into an entire week dedicated to supporting local nonprofits.
A Financial Boost for Local Charities
With a whopping $100,000 earmarked for local charities, the foundation has decided to step up its game even further! Representatives gathered at the Mungo Homes office, located in Irmo, to celebrate the generous donations. Excitement filled the room as several organizations received substantial checks to aid their crucial work in the community.
Among the lucky recipients was EmmanuWheel, which received $10,000 to continue building ramps for those in need. Chris Sharpe, the Executive Director, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers. “It has been three years since we first started working together, and so many faces here have helped us build ramps,” he shared. “It has had such a huge impact!”
Meanwhile, the co-founder of the Big Red Barn Retreat, Sutton Shaw, couldn’t contain his happiness after receiving a generous $25,000 check. “Thank you Mungo Homes for all of your support. We are so grateful,” he said.
And then there’s the story of Family Promise of the Midlands. Executive Director Jeffrey Armstrong shared emotional highlights of his organization’s work, feeling especially thankful this year. “When you see a family move from being at the bottom to becoming a homeowner, that shows the power of community,” he stated, accepting a remarkable $30,000 check. His emotion resonated in the spirit of the season, highlighting the foundation’s meaningful contributions, particularly during tough times like the pandemic.
Supporting Families, Veterans, and Education
But the Mungo Homes Foundation didn’t stop there! They also provided $25,000 to Home Works and $10,000 to the District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence, ensuring a broader impact on families, veterans, and educational initiatives in the local area.
As the contributions flow into the hands of those who need it most, the week of giving serves as a reminder of the power that community has when it comes together for a common cause. Everyone can play a role in fostering a culture of giving, not just during the holidays but all year round.
