Coconut Creek High School Football Season Recap: Monarch Knights Excel While Cougars Show Resilience

Coconut Creek High School Football Faces Monarch High in Kickoff Classic

This year in Coconut Creek, the local high schools have had a rollercoaster ride in sports, particularly in football. The Monarch High School Knights have had a solid season, winning their third straight District Championship and wrapping up with a record of 7-4 overall. They earned a fourth seed in the postseason and kicked off their playoffs with a hard-fought victory against Hkmestesd High, winning 28-20. In this game, Samari Reed stepped up, scoring two rushing touchdowns. He was supported by Florentino Lopez, who rushed for 167 yards and added another score, as well as Jack Speader, who also found the end zone.

However, their playoff hopes were dashed against top-seeded South High, where they narrowly lost 20-14. With over a dozen seniors graduating, some of them have already committed to play at the next level, showing that Monarch’s strong program continues to nurture talent.

On the other hand, Coconut Creek High School faced a challenging start this season. After losing their first three games, the Cougars managed to recover, finishing the regular season with a 4-5 record. They earned the sixth seed and faced Blanche Ely High in the playoffs, ultimately falling short with a tight score of 34-27.

Away from the football field, the Cougars had success in other sports. In cross country, Jeremiah Accius finished 54th, with teammates Tyler Joseph and John Jacques close behind. The girls were represented by Salaya Campbell and Layla Naves. For the Monarch boys’ cross country team, runners included Joshua Reneau, Gavin Mulligan, and Brian Colquhoun, with the girls’ team represented by Riley Cockrehan, Luna Hill, and Isabella Alba.

Meanwhile, North Broward Prep ended their football season with a victory over Pine Crest, winning 21-7, although they did not qualify for the playoffs. Their volleyball team advanced to the Regional Semifinals after winning a District Championship, showcasing another strong program. In golf, the girls’ team also celebrated success with a District Championship led by Jerera Mendez, who achieved a third-place finish with a score of 78. Jordan Ellis finished sixth with a score of 87, contributing to a strong performance from the team.

Coconut Creek schools have had a vibrant sports year, filled with ups and downs, but with much to celebrate as winter sports continue.
