Columbia, S.C. Celebrates Wreaths Across America Month

Columbia, South Carolina is gearing up for a heartfelt tribute this December! Governor Henry McMaster has officially declared the month as “Wreaths Across America” Month, a time dedicated to honoring our brave Veterans who have served this great nation.

Join the National Celebration

On December 14, the nation will come together in a touching ceremony as over 2 million volunteers across the United States lay beautiful green wreaths at the graves of Veterans. This annual event not only pays homage to those who served but also fosters a spirit of community and gratitude. It’s a day for everyone—young and old—to unite in remembrance and reflection.

Wreath Placement at Fort Jackson National Cemetery

Right here in Columbia, we have a special opportunity to make a difference. At noon on December 14, volunteers will gather at Fort Jackson National Cemetery to place over 13,000 wreaths on the graves of fallen heroes. Imagine the sight! Rows upon rows of wreaths, each one representing a life of service and sacrifice.

How to Get Involved

Would you like to play a part in this noble cause? Each wreath placed costs $17, and you can easily sponsor one (or more!) to help support this important mission. Contributions go directly to the Wreaths Across America organization, ensuring that each wreath reaches its intended resting place during this sentimental occasion.

You can make a donation and learn more about the event by visiting the Wreaths Across America website. Every dollar helps bring honor to our Veterans and connects us to their stories. Remember, it’s not just a wreath; it’s a symbol of respect.

A Heartfelt Tradition

The Wreaths Across America event is deeply rooted in tradition, beginning in 1992, when wreaths were placed at Arlington National Cemetery. The movement grew, and now it encompasses cemeteries and memorials across the nation. It’s a touching reminder during the holiday season that we are never truly alone in our remembrance. As we hang ornaments on our trees and share meals with family, we also take a moment to honor the lives that have been lost and the sacrifices that have been made.

Let’s Show Our Support!

This December, as you sip your cocoa and decorate with loved ones, think about the significance of this month. Whether you’re able to volunteer on December 14, donate, or simply spread the word, every effort counts! Together, we can ensure that our Veterans are honored and remembered not just today, but always.

Mark Your Calendars!

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a difference! Mark your calendar for December 14, and consider joining the volunteers at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. If you can’t make it, remember you can support from home through your generous donations.

Governor McMaster’s proclamation sets the tone for a month of remembrance and kindness. Let’s get together, Columbia! Let’s honor our heroes this Wreaths Across America Month and carry their legacies forward.
