College Commitments Steal the Show on National Signing Day in Oklahoma
Oklahoma witnessed a lively National Signing Day this past Wednesday, as numerous high school athletes marked their transition to the collegiate level. Although football players have to wait until next month to sign, athletes from various other sports didn’t hesitate to secure their futures.
One standout signing was Keziah Lofton, a star guard from Bethany. Lofton has been regarded as one of the top prospects in her class since her early days in middle school. After leading her team to two consecutive Class 4A state titles and being named to The Oklahoman’s Super 5 first team, Lofton officially signed her National Letter of Intent with the Oklahoma Sooners, a dream come true for the young athlete. “I grew up a Sooner, so it was a no-brainer for me,” Lofton commented, expressing her excitement at finally committing to the program she’s admired for so long.
Another talented athlete from Bethany, Kayten Donley, also made her commitment official, signing with Oral Roberts University. The two have made a significant impact at their school, bringing home its only two championships in girls basketball. Lofton expressed gratitude for her teammates and coaches, emphasizing that their support contributed greatly to her success.
Cal Furnish from Crossings Christian also saw his dreams take shape, as he signed with Oral Roberts after a stellar performance in his junior year that helped lead his team to the Class 5A state semifinals. With an impressive average of 15.6 points, along with five assists and two steals per game, Furnish is looking forward to the next chapter of his basketball journey while still aiming for state championship success this year.
Over at Edmond Memorial, Janiyah Williams signed with the University of Oregon, capping off a whirlwind recruitment period that saw her receive over thirty Division-I offers. Williams expressed relief and excitement after making her commitment official. She commented, “I was a little anxious… but I was just really more so excited,” as she looks forward to the upcoming senior year.
Across town in Choctaw, excitement filled the air as the Yellowjackets’ baseball program celebrated a record-breaking number of signings, with 19 athletes committing to various colleges. Notable signings included catcher Cash Williams, who will be heading to the University of Tennessee, and left-handed pitcher Gaige Albright, who committed to Oklahoma State. Both athletes have had stellar high school careers and have their sights set not just on college but on pursuing larger goals.
As various athletes across Oklahoma signed their letters of intent, it was clear that the future is bright for these talented individuals. They all aim not just to excel in their respective sports, but also to make a mark at the collegiate level and possibly beyond.
