Twin Falls High School Sports: Key Information for the Winter Season

Twin Falls Winter Sports Season Starts with Key Reminders

As the winter sports season kicks off in Twin Falls, Idaho, it’s essential for fans and attendees to be aware of some important updates and changes regarding high school basketball and other sports.

One significant issue facing the upcoming basketball season is a shortage of officials. Many referees are new to the sport and still getting used to the game and its rules. To support these officials and ensure the games can continue smoothly, it’s important for fans to remember to not harass them. District IV Basketball Commissioner, Randy Winn, highlighted the importance of treating referees with respect, noting, “This isn’t the NBA or Division I college basketball where people are in line to go officiate these events. We’re begging people to be there so please be good sports.” It’s crucial to understand that without officials, athletes won’t have the opportunity to participate in their beloved high school sports.

In addition to the need for sportsmanship, this season brings some rule changes to basketball. The first change is regarding the shot clock: if there is a shot clock implemented, the five-second closely guarded dribbling violation will no longer apply. This can change the way the game is played, allowing players more freedom when handling the ball. The second change is a new flop warning. If a player tries to exaggerate contact to trick the officials into calling a foul, they will receive a warning instead.

As you attend winter sporting events this season, please keep these updates in mind. Respect for officials and awareness of the new rules will help ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
