Portland, OR – The boys’ soccer teams from Franklin High School and Lincoln High School played to a thrilling 2-2 tie on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Franklin High. This exciting match not only showcased the skills of the players but also secured both teams a share of the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) championship.

The Lightning started the game strong, scoring their first goal early in the first half. The Cardinals quickly responded, netting a goal just before halftime to keep the game level. The second half saw both teams battling fiercely, with another two goals traded between them. The match ended in a tie, reflecting the competitive spirit and talent present on both sides.

As the two teams celebrated their shared title, excitement continued through the league playoffs. In the second round of playoffs held on Tuesday, several teams made their way to the quarterfinals. Notably, Lakeridge defeated Wells 4-2, and Grant edged past West Linn in a thrilling penalty shootout after a 2-2 tie. Franklin’s victory over Sherwood with a score of 2-1 advanced them into the quarterfinals, highlighting their strong season as they now prepare to face McMinnville this Saturday.

Other notable playoff results included Jesuit defeating Westview 6-1 and Lincoln moving forward after a close 3-2 victory over South Eugene in overtime. As the state quarterfinals approach, teams will be looking to make their mark and continue their postseason journey.

With the PIL championship secured and playoff action heating up, local fans are anticipating a thrilling end to the boys’ soccer season.
