Halloweenfest Captivates West Columbia with Comics, Costumes, and Community Spirit

Halloweenfest Brings Joy to West Columbia Comic Fans

This past Saturday, the charming city of West Columbia came alive with vibrant colors, cheerful laughter, and delightful costumes as a local comic shop hosted its annual Halloweenfest. There’s something magical about Halloween, a holiday that transcends age, uniting kids and adults alike in joyous celebration. At this event, everyone was welcome to bask in the true spirit of Halloween and the love for comic books!

A Spooktacular Celebration of Comics

The hosts at the comic shop lined the venue with a festive atmosphere brimming with excitement. Attendees were treated to free Halloween-themed comic books and an abundance of candy. What’s better than free comics? The thrill didn’t stop there! Guests were invited to capture memories with photo opportunities featuring costumed characters that brought their favorite heroes and villains to life.

To elevate the fun, a lively costume contest was held, showcasing the imagination and creativity of the participants. Around 20 contestants showed off their spooky, funny, and downright impressive costumes, creating a spirited environment that celebrated the creativity of the community. It was a sight to behold!

Local Artists Share Their Passion

Adding to the day’s festivities, local comic artists, including the talented Joshua Adams and his regional counterpart, Dan Evans, made appearances to engage with fans and share their recent works, including their comic books, Kolga and Apollyon 20XX. “I think it’s fun seeing so many different pieces of pop culture all come together and shared love of all these things,” said Adams. “These characters, the movies, and games – it’s cool seeing so many people that have so much in common.”

A Tradition of Fun and Community

This year’s Halloweenfest wasn’t just a random event. It marked nearly a decade of celebrating this special day at Scratch N’ Spin Records, a beloved local establishment. Owner Eric Woodard spoke of his almost ten-year tradition, explaining how Halloweenfest evolved from the well-known Free Comic Book Day, held the first Saturday in May. “Halloween is one of the best holidays throughout the year. It’s so fun to dress up!” he expressed enthusiastically. “The incorporation of Halloween elements into the event brings even more people out, sometimes even more than Free Comic Book Day.”

Community Participation and Future Events

Woodard happily shared that roughly 50 people attended the event this year, highlighting the ongoing support and enthusiasm from the community. Since opening their doors 21 years ago, Scratch N’ Spin has proudly carried comics since 2010, making it an essential part of the local comic culture.

Halloweenfest has surely become a staple celebration in West Columbia, held on the weekend leading up to Halloween. With each passing year, excitement continues to grow, bringing together comic book lovers and Halloween enthusiasts from all walks of life.

This year’s event was a heartwarming reminder of how stories, imagination, and community intertwine, all captured in the stunning costumes and the vibrant spirit of Halloween. As people chatted, exchanged stories, and reveled in their shared love for comics, it became clear that Halloweenfest is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of creativity, passion, and connection.

Until Next Year!

If you missed out this year, don’t fret! There’s always next year to join in on the fun and experience the magic that comes with Halloweenfest in West Columbia. With such a fantastic mix of costumes, comics, and community spirit, it’s sure to steal your heart all over again! 🎃📚
